Douglasville, GA — A maintenance worker was injured in a home explosion at a Douglasville townhouse. The explosion occurred at the Laura’s Manor complex on Dorsett Street around 3 p.m., reported WSBTV.

According to the Douglas County Fire Department, the townhouse largely collapsed as a result of the blast, which is connected to four other units. The explosion was so intense that wreckage was found strewn across the yard and a door was blown almost to the street.

The owner of the complex said the townhouse was unoccupied at the time, except for one person who was identified as a maintenance worker.

Firefighters stated that it is unclear what caused the explosion, but there was a reported smell of gas prior and after the explosion.

Responding emergency crews rushed the maintenance worker to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of severe burns. He is reportedly listed in serious condition.

The Atlanta Gas Light company reported to the scene to conduct an investigation.
