Las Vegas, NV — Luxury retail designer Chanel Inc., has filed a lawsuit against 399 websites for allegedly selling counterfeit items that display the Chanel name. The cyberpiracy and trademark infringement lawsuit was filed Tuesday, September 20, 2011, in the U.S. District Court in Las Vegas, reported the Associated Press.

The sweeping lawsuit is seeking an order to seize or disable the website domain names, as well as an injunction keeping the defendants—who are only identified as “partnerships and unincorporated associations”—from selling the counterfeit goods, which include handbags, wallets, shoes, boots, sunglasses, scarves, T-shirts, watches and jewelry, the AP reported.

The cyberpiracy and trademark infringement lawsuit is also seeking unspecified damages from the unnamed website operators who allegedly conduct business from China, the Bahamas and other oversea jurisdictions.

Several of the defendants named in the Chanel case are also involved in another similar lawsuit that involves other luxury retailers like Tiffany & Co. and Louis Vuitton Malletier, S.A.

Tiffany filed a lawsuit on April 18, which named 223 unnamed website operators, while the Louis Vuitton lawsuit named 182 defendants, which was filed on May 9.
