Pedestrian Hit, Killed by El Cajon Trolley at Transit Depot

El Cajon, CA — A trolley in El Cajon fatally struck a 48-year-old man Wednesday, September 28, 2011, when he stepped off a platform in front of the trolley at a transit depot. The fatal train accident occurred at an East County transit depot located in the 700 block of North Marshall Avenue, just before 2:30 p.m., reported CBS 8 KFMB.

According to officials, Andre Duff Zollicoffer of El Cajon stepped off the platform in front of a southbound trolley when he was fatally hit. He reportedly attempted to get back onto the platform, but did not do so in time.

As KFMB reported, “The trolley driver immediately attempted to stop by activating the emergency brake and sounding the … emergency horn,” said El Cajon police Lt. Frank La Haye.

Responding emergency crews pronounced Zollicoffer dead at the scene.

It is currently unknown why Zollicoffer stepped off the platform.

The cause of the fatal rail accident is underway.
