Riverside, CA — A Metrolink train killed a mother, after she managed to push her stroller and her baby to safety when it became stuck on railroad tracks in Riverside Saturday, October 8, 2011. The train accident occurred about 7 p.m. near the intersection of Mary Street and Indiana Avenue., reported ABC7.
Riverside police reported that 33-year-old Susan Dibene was attempting to cross the railroad tracks while pushing her 2-year-old daughter in a stroller when the railroad safety arms were lowered.
While crossing the railroad tracks, the stroller became stuck. Dibene managed to free the stroller from the tracks and push it to safety, before a Metrolink train fatally hit her.
Responding emergency crews pronounced Dibene dead at the scene of the accident.
The toddler was taken to Riverside County Hospital and was released to her grandmother.
Investigations into the fatal train accident are underway. It is unknown what prompted Dibene to cross the tracks while the crossing arms were lowered.
