West Palm Beach, FL — Due to a failure to alert consumers that it is time to change the batteries, ADT Security Services and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have announced a voluntary recall of CO 1224T Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors. The CPSC announced the product recall on October 20, 2011.

The recall was issued after it was discovered that the CO detectors fail to send a signal to make an alarm sound in the home alarm panel to alert consumers, and ADT’s alarm monitoring center that it is time to replace the batteries. Some CO detectors were wired improperly to the ADT alarm system, which has caused the sound to fail to go off in the home alarm panel. It also does not send a signal to the ADT alarm monitoring center at the end of its useful life, the CPSC reported.

The hard-wired carbon monoxide detectors with model CO 1224T installed by ADT are involved in this recall. Consumers can locate the model number behind the front cover.

Consumers are advised to contact ADT for a free inspection of the recalled detectors. A free repair will be provided if necessary.

For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact ADT toll-free at (800) 238-2727 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit www.us.adt.com.
