Ramona, OK — A traffic accident along U.S. Highway 75 killed an Oklahoma Department of Transportation worker who was repairing the roadway near Ramona in Washington County, reported KJRH.
According to officials, maintenance crews were conducting surface repairs like removing raised pavement markers and filing in the remaining holes on the highway, when he was struck.
The 40-year-old white male ODOT worker was in the processes of removing the markers in the closed left lane of the highway, and had his back to traffic when a red Pontiac Gran Am veered left. The ODOT worker was killed instantly.
The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.
It is unknown if the driver of the vehicle was cited for the wreck, but police are looking into whether the driver has a medical condition.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal accident.
KJRH revealed that since 1911, 56 ODOT workers have been killed in traffic accidents.
