Houston, TX — Two people were rushed to the hospital after an 18-wheeler jackknifed in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 on Monday, December 5, 2011. The 18-wheeler accident took place around 2:45 a.m. on the Katy Freeway eastbound near the Taylor Street exit in northwest Houston, reported MyFoxHouston.

Officials reported that the 18-wheeler made contact with a concrete divider on the highway, causing the cab of the truck to detach from the rest of the semi.

The impact caused the cab of the semi to continue sliding down the highway, and the fuel tank to explode.

It is unknown at this time what caused the truck to come into contact with the divider.

Responding emergency crews managed to rescue the truck driver and a passenger from the cab. They were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where they are in stable condition.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is investigating the semi-truck accident.
