North Bergen, NJ — A work-related construction accident killed a worker Saturday, December 3, 2011, when a cable pulling a trash container snapped and was flung into the back windshield of a truck. The fatal construction accident occurred in a residential neighborhood, located at 1307 84th St., just before noon, reported NorthJersey.com.
According to reports, the victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of the truck when the cable whipped through. The cable hit him in the back of the head, causing massive trauma.
Responding emergency crews pronounced the unidentified worker dead at the scene.
The identity of the worker is being withheld at this time.
The truck apparently belongs to Champion Construction and Demolition of Ridgefield Park, according to the truck’s markings. The trash bin was reportedly filled with construction debris from the property that the victim, who was working as a subcontractor, was hired to remove from the property.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the death.
