Wytheville, VA — A construction worker was seriously injured after plunging more than 12 feet from a new office complex building Monday afternoon, December 5, 2011. The work-related accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. in Wythe County, reported the Wytheville Enterprise.
The worker, who remains unidentified, was working on the office complex’s roof when a ladder moved out from underneath him, causing the man to fall more than 12 feet onto a landing.
Responding emergency crews used ropes to slide the injured man down the side of the metal roof to a motorized lift. After being lowered from the building, he was rushed by Wythe County Rescue Squad ambulance to Wythe County Community Hospital. He was then airlifted to a Johnson City, Tenn. hospital for further treatment.
The nature of his injuries, or what caused the ladder to slip out from underneath him has not been revealed.
It is unknown if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the construction accident.
