San Diego, CA — A construction worker was killed while unloading a piece of machinery from a flatbed truck Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at a Palm City equipment yard. The fatal work-related accident occurred at a lot in the 800 block of Hollister Street around 11:30 a.m., reported 10 News.

The 58-year-old unidentified worker was reportedly unloading a boom lift, also known as a “cherry picker,” from a flatbed truck while he operated it from its extendable basket. As he was unloading the machinery, one of its wheels slipped off the edge of the truck, causing it to topple over and fall to the ground.

Responding emergency crews pronounced the man, who would have turned 59 on Saturday, dead at the scene, 10 News reports.

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time.

The state Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) is investigating the fatal construction accident.
