Oil Well Explosion Near Pearsall Injured 3 Workers

Pearsall, TX — Three workers were injured in a oil well explosion at a fracking site Thursday afternoon, January 19, 2012. The blast occurred just south of Pearsall around 6 p.m., reported KSAT.com.

Officials reported that the explosion threw the top of one oil well, launching it 25 yards into the air and produced heavy flames and smoke that could be seen from miles away.

The extent of the three worker’s injuries is unknown at this time, but they were all said to be conscious and breathing. They were rushed to an area hospital for medical treatment.

The identities of the victims are being withheld at this time.

Responding Pearsall and Dilley firefighters battled the flames with water and foam, which had the fire controlled by 8 p.m.

The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time and under investigation.

It is unknown if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be investigating.
