Wilmington, DE — A school bus crash injured six children on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, when the bus rear-ended a Honda Accord around 4:30 p.m. on South DuPont Road, near the intersection of North Maryland Avenue in Wilmington, reported 6abc.com.

According to New Castle County police, the Honda Accord was in front of the school bus on South DuPont Road while they were stopped at a light. The car moved forward and stopped suddenly, leading the bus to rear-end the car as it was attempting to make a right turn.

Responding emergency crews transported four children from Richardson Park Elementary School to Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children and two children to Christiana Hospital for treatment. The students reportedly sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda, a 62-year-old male, and the 49-year-old passenger were not injured in the crash.

The school bus driver, Donald Winter of New Castle, was also not injured in the crash.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage in the accident.

Investigations are underway. Winter was issued a citation for following too closely.
