I think this is a direct reflection of society and of ourselves. We have a huge obesity problem in the U.S., and that is spilling over to our pets. But, I agree with this article that pet food manufacturers are partly to blame for not having caloric values. Just like healthy food for humans, the healthier pet food is considerably more expensive, leading pet owners to choose the cheaper food. This is also likely adding to the weight gain.
