Fort Lauderdale, FL — A trip won by a pregnant Massachusetts woman and her husband turned deadly when a vehicle plowed through a cabana at the hotel they were staying at, killing the woman and her unborn child. The crash occurred on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Riverside Hotel, located at 600 E. Los Olas Boulevard, reported the Miami Herald.

Alanna Demella, and her husband, Michael, won the trip to South Florida through their church, in which they attended a marriage conference and ended up staying an extra day.

Alanna was reportedly inside the bathroom at a poolside cabana when the accident occurred. Motorist Rosa Rivera Kim, 34, was driving on Southeast Fourth Street when she lost control at a curve in the road, causing her to drive through a fence and crash into the cabana, knocking down two pillars along the way.

Alanna was seven months pregnant at the time. She and her unborn child were killed in the wreck.

Michael was in an adjoining restroom at the time, and suffered cuts and bruises.

Kim was transported to Broward General Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

No charges have been filed at this time. Investigations are ongoing.
