Seymour, IN — Four high school students were rushed to the hospital following a lightening strike at a southern Indiana high school Thursday afternoon, March 15, 2012. The lightening struck the field where the Seymour High School girls softball team was practicing around 4:25 a.m., reported WAVE3.com.
Teammates recalled that there was one cloud in the sky, which was really nothing of significance when the lightening hit.
Responding emergency crews rushed four girls to Schneck Medical Center for treatment of injuries related to the lightening strike. One girl was originally listed in critical condition, but has since upgraded to good condition. She was transferred to the Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for continued treatment. The three other girls were treated and released.
The more seriously injured girl was only described as a freshman. All of their injured girls’ identities are being withheld at this time.
Teammates assert that the accident was not their coach’s fault for not getting them off the field.
