Washington – A new measure has been proposed to help prevent truck and bus related rollover accidents. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposed new regulations Wednesday that would require manufacturers to include electronic stability control safety systems in these types of vehicles.
As noted in the report, the proposed system would sense a loss of driver control and utilize computer-controlled braking to stabilize vehicles. Safety systems have already been introduced for passenger cars, light trucks, and SUVs.
NHTSA Administrator David Strickland, is quoted by the AP as stating of the proposal, “We’ve already seen how effective stability control can be at reducing rollovers in passenger vehicles… Now, we’re expanding our efforts to require stability enhancing technology on the many large trucks, motor coaches, and other large buses on our roadways.”
