Google data sheds light on piracy issues

San Francisco, CA – New data has been released by Google that may help shed light on piracy issues affecting Microsoft. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the search giant released data Thursday that includes information about the number of intellectual property abuse complaints regarding infringements on Microsoft’s copyrights online.

As noted by the AP, Google Inc.’s report shows 2.5 million requests have been received by the company over the past 11 months for the removal of links that were a possible infringement on Microsoft’s protected information.

Microsoft Corp. spokesman Lou Gellos is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue in an email, “Each month, Microsoft requests the removal of links to web pages that infringe Microsoft’s copyrights so that customers are not deceived into purchasing or downloading counterfeit software.”
