Lagos, Nigeria – Nigerian carrier Dana Air defended itself against growing backlash Wednesday following a deadly plane crash that killed more than 153 people. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a representative for the airline, whose plane crashed into a Lagos neighborhood, killing passengers as well as victims on the ground, stated the plane had undergone appropriate checks.

The executive, Francis Ogboro, is quoted in the report as stating of the chief engineer, who also died in the accident, that if a problem had been foreseen he “certainly would not have allowed that aircraft to take off.”

The circumstances surrounding the accident, including the total number of victims, are reportedly still under investigation.
