Portland, Oregon – An Oregon jury has awarded a woman $900,000 in a claim against a man she says gave her genital herpes. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the woman, 49, won what is stated to possibly be the largest award to be granted for this type of lawsuit.

The plaintiff, who filed the claim using a pseudonym, reportedly stated she met the 69-year-old retired dentist accused of giving her the STD on an online dating site. He purportedly has had genital herpes for more than 20 years.

Randall Vogt, the woman’s attorney, is quoted by the AP as stating of the issues suffered by his client as a result of being infected with the STD, “It made her feel like she needed to isolate herself from society, and she became a recluse… She was interested in finding a husband but pretty much dropped efforts in that direction because of the herpes.”
