Teen convicted in texting while driving death case

Massachusetts – A Massachusetts teen was convicted of homicide by texting while driving in a landmark case. As reported by Good Morning America, Aaron Deveau, 18 is the first to be charged and convicted in this type of case under Massachusetts law.

Deveau had entered a plea of not guilty in the case against him stemming from an accident in which his vehicle crashed into another after crossing the center line of a street.

Donna Burleigh, the sister of Donald Bowley, who was fatally injured in the accident, is quoted in the report as stating of her deceased sibling while giving her testimony in Haverhill District Court, “My brother received such severe head trauma that … there was no hope for him.”

Deveau could receive up to four years imprisonment for the conviction.
