Washington, D.C. – A House committee has voted in favor of citing U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt. As reported by The Ticket, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted Wednesday, 23 to 17, to hold Holder in contempt for allegations stemming from failed gunwalking tactic, Operation Fast and Furious, after the Justice Department decided to withhold related subpoenaed documents.
The vote was strongly divided between parties with Republics in the committee voting in favor of holding Holder in contempt and Democrats voting against it.
Deputy Attorney General James Cole is quoted in the report as writing in a letter to delivered to committee chair Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) prior to the hearing, “Although we are deeply disappointed that the Committee appears intent on proceeding with a contempt vote, the Department remains willing to work with the Committee to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution of the outstanding issues.”
A full House vote is expected to be scheduled for next week.
