U.S. – The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review a ruling involving an international child custody battle. As reported by Reuters, the court agreed to review a challenge to a custody decision brought by a U.S. Army sergeant seeking to reverse a custody order that allows his daughter to remain in Scotland to live with her mother.
The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the appeal of the girl’s father, Jeffrey Chafin, earlier this year citing the child was already in Scotland. She had reportedly lived there with her mother since 2007, but traveled back to the U.S. with her mother, Lynne Chafin, during a failed reconciliation attempt by the parents in 2010.
Chaflin was awarded custody by an Alabama state judge prior to a district judge deciding that the young girl should be returned to her mother in Scotland in 2011.
The Supreme Court decision in the case is expected to be made during the High Court’s coming term.
