San Francisco, CA – Google Inc. has rejected a request by the White House to remove an online clip of a controversial anti-Islam film. As reported by Reuters, the White House requested on Friday that the company reconsider taking the clip off of YouTube and reassessing whether it violated the terms and conditions of the video sharing website.
As noted in the report, the company has stated it was censoring the video clip of the controversial film that has sparked anti-American protests in the Middle East in certain countries.
The company is quoted by Reuters as stating of the issue, “We’ve restricted access to it in countries where it is illegal such as India and Indonesia, as well as in Libya and Egypt, given the very sensitive situations in these two countries… This approach is entirely consistent with principles we first laid out in 2007.”
