Lackawanna Steel Plant Accident Kills Man, Injures Another

Lackawanna, N.Y. — A workplace accident killed a 46-year-old man when a steel beam fell at Linita Design and Manufacturing on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 around 4:30 p.m., WKBW News reports.

According to officials, a steel beam weighing 6,000-pounds fell from an overhead crane, bounced off the ground, and landed on the midsection of Sabahudin Ramulic.

The beam also broke the legs of a co-worker, Patrick Barker, 26, who was helping Ramulic at the time of the accident.

Responding emergency crews rushed Ramulic to Mercy Hospital, where his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead.

Barker was rushed to Erie County Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

It is unknown at this time why the steel beam fell from the crane.

The U.S. Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to investigate the fatal workplace accident.
