Darien, NY — A head-on accident has left a teenager fighting for her life, and killed her mother and injured her father, along with another driver on Sunday, October 21, 2012. The fatal automobile accident occurred on Route 20 in the Town of Darien around 3 p.m., reports WIVB.com.
According to police reports, a white SUV was headed eastbound on Route 20, when a westbound black SUV stopped to make a left hand turn. A red sedan traveling behind the SUV swerved out of the left lane for unknown reasons and slammed head on into the white eastbound SUV.
Responding emergency crews rushed the driver of the white SUV and the two passengers to ECMC for medical treatment. The driver, identified as South Buffalo native Audrey Gleason, 55, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Gleason’s daughter Kelly, 16, who was passenger in the vehicle, sustained two broken legs and underwent surgery for a perforated bowl. Gleason’s husband, who was also a passenger in the vehicle, sustained several broken vertebrae.
The driver of the sedan was also reportedly injured.
Investigations into the fatal automobile accident are underway. It is unknown at this time why the sedan swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic.
Traffic citations are pending further investigations.
