New York, N.Y. — Dorel Juvenile Group and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) have voluntarily recalled about 97,000 Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets for infant suffocation hazards. The CPSC announced the nationwide recall on October 23, 2012.
The bassinets were recalled after discovering that the bottom locking mechanism can fail to lock properly if a spring is not installed, which enables the bassinet to tip over to one side and allow infants to roll to the side of the bassinet. This defect poses a suffocation hazard to infants.
“This recall involves Eddie Bauer Rocking Wood Bassinets. The bassinets have a dark brown wooden headboard and footboard and a cotton bassinet that comes in a variety of colors and patterns. ‘Eddie Bauer’ is printed on a metal plate on the bassinet’s footboard. These bassinets have a dial at the base of the footboard that locks and unlocks the rocking motion of the bassinet. Recalled bassinets have the following model numbers: 10632, 10639, 10832, 10835, 10839 and BT021. The model number is located under the mattress, on the top surface of the mattress support board or on the wash and care label,” the CPSC reported.
Consumers are advised to contact Doral for a free repair kit that includes a spring and assembly instructions.
