New York – Hurricane Sandy has had a devastating impact on several areas throughout the East Coast of the U.S., leaving millions without power as officials attempt to assess the devastation for impending rebuilding plans. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the hurricane, which developed into a terrifying superstorm Monday, has left at least 50 people dead and resulted in power outages in over eight million homes in 17 states.

Analysts are forecasting the storm to cause an estimated $20 billion in damages in addition to billions of dollars in business losses.

New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, a supporter of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, offered praises for President Barack Obama Tuesday regarding his Major Disaster Declaration for New Jersey, which was hit hard by the storm.

Christie is quoted by ABC News as stating on Good Morning America, “I have to say, the administration, the president, himself and FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate have been outstanding with us so far… We have a great partnership with them.”
