U.S. – President Barack Obama has been re-elected to the post of President of the United States. Obama, a Democrat and the nation’s 44th president, beat challenger and Republican nominee Mitt Romney in one of the most closely guarded U.S. presidential races to date.

Long lines in states like Florida and Ohio led to late reporting of results that remained too close to call hours after polls closed at many locations. Obama took the lead in electoral votes in the home states of both Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan.

The President, whose accomplishments during his first term included the passage of major healthcare reform and a stimulus bill, ending the war in Iraq, the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and the elimination of Osama bin laden has expressed plans to continue to focus the next four years on issues such as job growth and education reform.
