US – A new study suggests bounce house injuries have risen significantly in recent years. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the nationwide study, which included only nonfatal accidents, suggests inflatable bounce house accidents send an estimated 30 children per day to emergency rooms for treatment of broken bones, sprains, and other injuries. A number of accidents reportedly occurred due to the collapse or lifting by high winds of inflatable bounce houses.
Lead study author Dr. Gary Smith, who is the director of the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, is quoted by the AP as stating of the findings, “I was surprised by the number, especially by the rapid increase in the number of injuries.”
The study has been published online in the Pediatrics journal.
