Nebraska – A Nebraska woman accused of faking being the victim of a hate crime has been found guilty on related charges. A reported by the Associated Press (AP), Charlie Rogers, 34, pleaded no contest to the charge of making a false report after claiming she was attacked by multiple men who carved anti-gay slurs on her body.
Brett McArthur, Rogers’ attorney has stated despite the no contest plea that his client maintains her innocence. McArthur is quoted by the AP as stating of Rogers, “She has a very sensitive personality, and this has been a very frightening experience on many levels… She’s not a particularly outspoken person in the gay community.”
Rogers faces a $1,000 fine and up to one year of jail time. She is expected to be sentenced in February.
