Los Angeles – A jury has awarded $6.9 million to a student who was molested by an elementary school teacher in a case against the Los Angeles Unified School District. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the verdict is one of the largest in the school system’s history.
The Queen Anne Elementary School teacher Forrest Stobbe reportedly molested the 10-year-old student in 2008 and 2009 repeatedly. Stobbe pleaded no contest to related charges in 2011.
General counsel for the district David Holmquist is quoted in the report as stating of the case, “We take our duty to protect our students seriously and are continually looking for ways that we can strengthen our screening and reporting processes to ensure that no child is ever hurt in this way…Although we can’t change what happened in this case, we remain committed to doing everything in our power to promote healing and improve trust with those impacted.”
