US – Laws are set to take effect in some states in 2013 that will ban employers from demanding the passwords of workers for their password-protected social media accounts. As reported by Reuters, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) has stated over 400 new state level enacted measures will become law in the new year, focusing on a range of issues.

In addition to the social networking site password-protection measures, others set to become law in 2013 include, the passage of same-sex marriage in Maryland, the banning of sex offenders from distributing candy on Halloween in Illinois, and the disallowing of employers in Oregon to advertise job vacancies that out of work applicants will not be considered for.

Some laws are set to be effective midnight, while others will become law later in the year.
