US – The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has delayed the start of tax-season until Jan. 30 following last minute tax law changes passed by Congress. As reported by Bloomberg, the IRS will begin processing 2012 individual tax returns days after it initially planned to open electronic filings for the year.
Steven Miller, the acting IRS commissioner, is quoted in the report as stating of the delay, “We have worked hard to open tax season as soon as possible… This date ensures we have the time we need to update and test our processing systems.”
Although a majority of tax filers in the country will reportedly be able to file by the end of January, some may be required to wait until February or March so that the IRS has time to update forms.
