New York, NY — A construction accident involving a 170-foot tall crane left at least seven people injured, including three who were seriously injured. The construction accident occurred at the site of a new 25-story residential building under construction on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 2:30 p.m., the Chicago Tribune reported.
A mobile crane reportedly collapsed on the construction site when it snapped in half and crashed into another building.
It is unknown at this time what caused the crane, which is owned by New York Crane, to snap and collapse.
Responding emergency medical crews rushed the injured to area hospitals for medical treatment. None of the injuries are considered to be life-threatening.
Investigations are underway. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to investigate.
