Brooklyn Car Accident Attorney Report: A young Brooklyn driver along with a passenger, sped through a red light in the early morning hours of January 10, 2013, colliding with another car killing its driver and passenger. Jonathan Sade, age 21, driving the speeding vehicle was killed on impact, along with the two occupants of other car. Mr. Sade’s passenger was listed in critical condition at an area hospital this morning. The accident occurred at 2:00 a.m. Mr. Sade, from Sheepshead Bay, driving a black Acura was traveling east on Avenue U in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn, when he sped through the light at the intersection of E. 5th Street. His vehicle then hit a red Toyota, that was carrying Leonora Lavard and Andre Capers Jones of Park Slope. Both Ms. Lavard and Mr. Jones were declared dead at the scene. Ms. Lavard’s grief-stricken parents later visited the crash scene, stating to the police that she was a student at Brooklyn College, and a “beautiful daughter.” The preliminary police report of this accident estimated Mr. Sade’s speed at impact to be 70 m.p.h. The results of a full police investigation are pending.
Brooklyn car accident attorney, Jonathan C. Reiter, who has handled many motor vehicle accidents, commented on this accident, as follows: “There is a doctrine in law, which in Latin is “res ipsa loquiteur” meaning “the thing speaks for itself.” In this case, the young man, for whatever reason was speeding and allegedly ran through a red light, causing massive injuries to his own passenger, and fatal injuries to himself and two innocent people who were traveling into the intersection where this crash occurred. In other words, this is negligence that speaks for itself. Therefore, the liability for this accident may be placed solely on Mr. Sade, by operation of law.”
The police will likely be reviewing all surveillance tapes located at the intersection where the accident occurred to determine with certainty that this young man ran the red light. Mr. Reiter explained: “While eyewitnesses may have stated that the young man ran the red light, that will only be confirmed by the police investigators’ review of surveillance tapes, and a review of the physical evidence that is usually found at the sites of fatal accidents, such as skid marks and points of impact between the two vehicles.” Until such time as the full investigation is complete, the families of all the victims are left to bury their young, and to ask the question ‘why.’
“This tragic accident, that took the lives of three young people, is unfortunately the kind that is impossible to either predict or prevent, because it most likely lies in the fault of a speeding and careless young driver who is no longer alive to explain the why’s and wherefore’s,” adds Mr. Reiter, the NY car accident lawyer.
