Little Rock, Arkansas – An Arkansas lawmaker has stated he would make changes to his abortion ban proposal, which would allow the procedure to be performed under certain circumstances. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), state Senator Jason Rapert’s changed proposal would allow abortions if a heartbeat is not detected via an ultrasound.
As noted in the report, the proposal is regarded as one of the strictest in the country, possibly prohibiting abortions as early as 10 weeks into pregnancy. Exemptions are included in cases of rape, incest, and risks to the life of the mother.
Rapert is quoted by the AP as stating of the measure, “I think it’ll be a better bill and I think it’s still good because it’s still better than the situation we have now.”
