Los Angeles – An appeals court has determined that a defamation case brought by Ryan O’Neal should be allowed to go forward. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a panel of the 2nd District Court of Appeal was divided on the ruling Thursday in regards to O’Neal’s claim that he was defamed by Craig Nevius, a former associate of the late Farrah Fawcett.
O’Neal filed the lawsuit in 2011 seeking over $1 million in damages over Nevius’ claims that he had stolen a valuable portrait of Fawcett, with whom he had a long-term relationship, following her death.
The justices on the panel who sided with O’Neal are quoted by the AP as writing in their decision, “The inferences reasonably drawn from the evidence here would support a jury’s finding that Nevius harbored strong ill-feelings toward O’Neal.”
