Denver, CO – The Colorado House passed measures for stricter gun control on Monday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), included in the proposals passed by the Democrat-controlled House were ammunition magazine size limitations and universal background check requirements.
Despite strong defiance from Republicans, the measures passed 34-31. Republicans argued that the proposals would not deter mass shootings as those at the center of gun control controversy like the shootings at an elementary school in Connecticut.
Dickey Lee Hullinghorst, the Democrats’ leader in the House, is quoted by the AP as stating of the Republican argument in the control debate, “I resent the implication that unless we all arm ourselves we will not be adequately protected.”
The proposals must still be voted on by the Senate.
