Chicago, Ill – Former Illinois police officer Drew Peterson has been sentenced in the death of his third wife. As reported by ABC News, Peterson proclaimed his innocence in the courtroom Thursday prior to being sentenced to 38 years for the killing of Kathleen Savio in 2004.

Peterson accused the police of altering evidence and witness intimidation in his case. He is quoted in the report as shouting out before being handed down his sentence, “I did not kill Kathleen!” and further stating, “I love Kathy… She was a good mom. … She didn’t deserve to die.”

Stacy Peterson, Drew Peterson’s fourth wife, reportedly disappeared in 2007. He has not been charged in her disappearance.

Peterson, who faced up to 60 years in prison, had been denied a retrial by Will County Judge Edward Burmila prior to being sentenced.
