Bakersfield, California – No charges are set to be filed in the case of an elderly woman who was denied CPR at a retirement home after she collapsed. As reported by ABC News, a 911 call in which the caller refused to perform CPR on Lorraine Bayless, 87, or locate someone who would, prompted an investigation into Bayless’ subsequent death.

Bakersfield Police Department officials are quoted in the report as stating of the incident, “A thorough review was conducted of all the facts surrounding the case. The investigation revealed that no criminal statutes had been violated.”

Brookdale Senior Living, which owns the retirement home where the incident occurred, Glendale Gardens, is further quoted as stating after the employee involved was purportedly placed on voluntary leave, “The incident resulted from a complete misunderstanding of our practice with regards to emergency medical care for our residents.”

The company said its emergency medical policies would be reviewed.
