Google agrees to Street View privacy case settlement

California – Technology giant Google Inc. has agreed to a settlement in a privacy case concerning its Street View technology. As reported by MarketWatch, the company will pay $7 million in settlement with 38 states regarding data collection by it Street View cars over unsecured business and personal Wi-Fi networks.

A spokesperson for Google is quoted in the report as stating of the case in an email statement, “We work hard to get privacy right at Google. But in this case we didn’t, which is why we quickly tightened up our systems to address the issue… The project leaders never wanted this data, and didn’t use it or even look at it. We’re pleased to have worked with Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen and the other state attorneys general to reach this agreement.”
