Indianapolis – An attorney who helped Muslim inmates in a high-security prison unit win the right to have group prayers each day is purportedly making the push for more. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana legal director Ken Falk, who represented American Taliban fighter John Walker Lindh in a lawsuit against the Bureau of Federal Prisons, has said he will ask a judge to issue an order that the inmates be allowed the prayers five time daily as required by Islam.
Falk asserts that a January ruling by U.S. District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson requires that the Terre Haute federal prison’s Communications Management Unit allow the inmates to pray together five times. The prison is reportedly allowing them three daily group prayers.
Falk is quoted by the AP as stating of the matter, “Basically, it’s our contention that they’re not complying with the court order…The judge’s order is pretty clear.”
