Atlanta, GA – A grand jury has indicted dozens of educators in connection with one of the largest school cheating scandals in the country. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), former Superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools Beverly Hall is among approximately three dozen administrators, teachers, and others facing charges amid allegations that they engaged in cheating in 44 schools in Atlanta.
A state investigation report released in 2011 found that approximately 180 educators had given answers to students or changed student test answers after the tests had been taken.
A majority of those named in the report no longer work for the schools, subsequently retiring, resigning, or not getting their contracts renewed.
Justina Collins, a parent of one of the students is quoted by the AP as stating of the impact the cheating scandal has had on her learning, “I have a 15-year-old now who is behind in achieving her goal of becoming what she wants to be when she graduates. It’s been hard trying to help her catch up.”
