Detroit – A recall has been announced by Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia on approximately 1.9 million vehicles. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the recall covers 2007-2011 year model lineups for the automakers for brake light switch issues as well as approximately 194,000 of Hyundai Motor Co’s Elantra compact cars for model years 2011-2013 due to air bag problems.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is quoted by the AP as stating in documents posted online Wednesday of the brake light issue, “Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash.”
As noted in the report, both Hyundai and Kia are owned by the same company.
