Malawi – Madonna has reportedly been accused of bullying officials of the Malawi government following complaints about a trip to the country this month. As reported by Reuters, the government of Malawi President Joyce Banda labeled the entertainer an “uncouth” bully and accused her of exaggerating her charitable work there.
An 11-point statement from Malawi’s State House is quoted in the report as stating of Madonna, “Among the many things that Madonna needs to learn as a matter of urgency is the decency of telling the truth.”
Madonna is further quoted as stating on her Raising Malawi foundation website in response to the verbal attacks, which she purports were sparked by a disagreement with President Banda’s sister, who was fired from her position with the foundation, “I’m saddened that Malawi’s President Joyce Banda has chosen to release lies about what we’ve accomplished, my intentions, how I personally conducted myself while visiting Malawi and other untruths.”
