San Diego, CA – Several Scripps Ranch High School students have been suspended over a dancing video posted online. As reported by ABC 10 News, 33 students were suspended after teachers saw them “twerking” in a video on YouTube.

Twerking is a type of dance involving shaking of the hips in a twist and jerk motion. The 33 students have been banned from participation in sporting events, walking at graduation, and attending prom at the end of the school year.

Student Emily Benzie, who was not a part of the video, is quoted in the report as stating of the suspensions, “They’ve waited four years to go to prom, to walk at graduation and now because of a fun video, it’s being taken away from them.”
