“I’m a divorce lawyer, which means I get to see the worst side of human relationships, but I also know – from my own life and from studying my clients’ experiences and reactions – that there is life after divorce,” he says. “Going through the break-up of my own marriage, experiencing the unavoidable guilt of being divorced with children, and feeling the loss of what was ‘normal’ has given me a deeper understanding of my clients.
“I don’t try lawsuits differently, but I’m able to talk to my clients on a different level and help them get through one of the hardest things they will likely ever experience just a little bit better,” he says. “Looking at it from the other side of the table, the combination of my career and my own personal school of hard knocks has given me an insight into my new marriage that I wouldn’t have thought possible.”
Mr. Anderson and his new wife, Aleshia, walked down the aisle on Jan. 1, 2013.
While working to blend their families (both have children from previous marriages), the couple admits that the process hasn’t been a seamless transition, although it has been “no worse than the sibling rivalry you see in many families.”
“I’ve seen my clients over the years work on blending their new families. It takes time, and the issues can be terribly difficult,” Mr. Anderson says. “Sometimes those issues simply can’t be worked out and it’s heartbreaking, even devastating. But they usually do, and what emerges is more like a ‘normal’ family unit, instead of a fractured, divorced family unit.”
Mr. Anderson joined McCurley Orsinger in early 2012, after running his own Family Law firm for almost 20 years. Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, and past member of the Texas Family Law Council.
