New York – The government filed a last-minute appeal this week with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan to delay a decision regarding morning after contraceptive pill sales without a prescription to girls without age restrictions. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the filing by the Obama administration was made prior to the deadline at noon on Monday.

U.S. District Judge Edward Korman in Brooklyn refused delaying enforcement of his decision regarding the unrestricted sale of morning-after contraceptive pills last week.

Sales of the pills were previously limited to purchasers aged 17 and older, a decision was made by the FDA this month; however, lowering the age to 15. Korman’s decision lifted an age restriction.

The appeals court is expected to issue a ruling of whether to delay Korman’s ruling after The Center for Reproductive Rights provides an answer for the recent legal filing.
