Newport Beach, CA – Five Southern California high school students died in a fiery crash that occurred while they were driving to the beach. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the teens, all students from schools in the Irvine Unified School District, were identified as 17-year-old Abdulrahman Alyahyan, 17-year-old Robin Cabrera and her 16-year-old sister Aurora, and Cecilia Zamora and Nozad Al Hamawendi, both 17.

The Infiniti sedan the victims were riding in reportedly veered off the road and hit a tree before splitting upon impact and catching fire on Memorial Day.

Irvine Unified School District Superintendent Terry Walker, is quoted by the AP as releasing the statement about the students’ deaths from the crash, which occurred Monday, “There are simply no words to convey the sorrow felt by our students and staff, nor are there sufficient answers to explain the loss of five vibrant teenagers from our schools and this community.”
