Michigan – A former Michigan judge was sentenced to prison for fraud on Tuesday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Diane Hathaway, who is a former Michigan Supreme Court Justice, was sentenced to a prison term of one year and one day for mortgage fraud in which she purportedly concealed assets while asking a bank to allow a short sale on her home.

The former judge is accused of claiming financial hardship while possessing over $1 million in assets, putting homes she and her husband owned in the names of relatives, while seeking a hardship sale of a home in Grosse Point Park in 2011.

Hathaway is quoted by the AP as saying while reading a statement before U.S. District Judge John Corbett O’Meara, “I stand before you a broken person…I am ashamed, embarrassed, humiliated and disgraced.”
